how to delete message?

It appears I have accidentally posted same message 3 times. I now want to delete 2 of them. I clicked the 'edit' button, but could not find a way to delete.
Please advise.

There will be a small "x" in a box on a message you are able to delete. It's next to the "!" button you use to report a post.
However, IIRC, there is a very short window in which you can delete a post, something like 30 minutes. After that all you can do is ask the moderator nicely. (You can edit a post longer than that, but you can't delete it completely.)
