With all respect to Kirtley, that is not strictly true!

Ginn whilst 'forced' out of EMG, retained the friendship and loyalty of one Percy Wilson. It was always Wilson's idea to reduce the number of bends in the horn and indeed to change the position and design of the horn conduit; it was something HE was already thinking about. Not surprisingly, it was therefore with Wilson's blessing that the new Expert design came into fruition. Ginn had little money to play with to get everything re-tooled for EMG. The establishment of 'Expert' simply forced his hand to do so. The design was not so much of a compromise as it was a realisation of a prototype that had been reckoned to be superior to the then latest EMG model: the Mark 10.

The Expert machine was much better and as a result of the advances made by Expert in 1930, it took EMG a further 3 years to catch them up. Some collectors today don't actually believe that EMG ever did catch Expert. Both the EMG 10B and Expert Senior are great machines but as good as they are they do not sound remotely alike!
