Seeking identification of travelling arm gramophone base

Post by Ian »

Whilst visiting an eBay seller recently to collect some winnings, I offered advice on a small number of gramophones that are likely to be sold at some time in the future. As it happened, most were either incomplete or in need of restoration and all bar one were pretty uninteresting.

However, the pictures below depict what appears to be the remains of an early travelling arm machine. I couldn't find a maker's name anywhere, nor could I open the thing up to get a look at the motor. Anyone know what this might be? I'd naturally be interested to know.

Sorry the pictures aren't great, but they were taken using a mobile phone.
