I purchased this stereoscopic image from a seller in the U.K. several years ago, and I've always wondered where the photo was taken. One kind reader of The Antique Phonograph has already suggested Salisbury Cathedral as the spire in the background, but searching online maps of the city didn't reveal the large park and the row of houses shown. Of course, the passing of a century might well alter the view shown here! The shadows suggest the view is looking roughly north/northwest.
In any event - Salisbury or not - does anyone recognize this place?
Thanks to all in advance - -

This would be my guess though the angle is different and the far end of the row of houses is not clear? Greyfriars park, Coventry ???

Thanks, Sidewinder, for your posting. I think your image has a better shot at the prize than does Salisbury. The jury's still out, I guess...
Thanks again!

If it is Coventry then the scene today will almost certainly no longer exist as as result of blanket bombing of Coventry which took place on the 14th November 1940. It isn't Salisbury, of that I am quite sure, as I lived in that area for over 20 years and it doesn't look like any vantage point I am aware of.

Thanks, SBH, for ruling out Salisbury. As for Coventry, I was thinking the same thing. I'll see if I can find a pre-1940 image of the cathedral to compare. The Trinity Church spire does not appear to be a match.
Thanks again,

Would you mind posting a scan of the stereoview that you have?
