From the seller's description:

"Patented in 1928, this amazing machine plays both sides of eight records and changes the needle automatically after each playing!

In 1929 the retail price was 85 guineas, which was serious money then.

Included in the auction is a photocopy of an article in the Hillandale News from August 1993, describing the 'continuous gramophone' and its patents.

Also a photocopy from the Gramophone magazine November 1929.

The machine has not been used for several years, is not in full working condition and is therefore sold as seen."

What an interesting changer!
I especially like the hopper for the supply of new needles.
I wonder if record sizes could be intermixed.
I wish it were over here!

Could this be the same machine which was offered at Dreweatts sale in Bristol (Lot 461) on 11th November 2008? There cannot be many Continuous gramophones surviving, so it seems too much of a co-incidence.

The catalogue does not include a photograph of the machine, but I attended the sale and noted that it was bid to £900 against a pre-sale estimate of £1000-£2000. A far cry from it's lowly 99p start on eBay!
