UK Dictaphone model 10? Need to remove the mandrel but stuck

Post by mike oliver »

I have just bought a UK made Dictaphone model 10 (I think) and have been cleaning it up. Unfortunately I undid one of the screws on the mandrel that hold the springs that hold the cylinder and now i have to remove the mandrel to hold the springs in place and put the screw back. I am at the point of trying to understand how to remove the black hollow screw on the end of the shaft that retains the large motor pulley. I think once this is removed the mandrel shaft can be extracted - could be wrong ofcourse. Can someone advise how the black screw is removed because I don't want to bust it! Thanks for any help.

Hey

Saw your post - I have done exactly the same thing!

Did you get it fixed?

Cheers!

I've just been working on a Dictaphone 12. I'm guessing removing the mandrel is the same.
Remove the name plate
Note the half circle plate held in place with a screw. Follow the red arrow in the picture.
Remove the screw and plate
Note a pin under the plate
Push the pin in a little
Turn the mandrel and then pull the pin out with plyers
Loosen the other screw marked with a green arrow
Reverse to fit

Many thanks for the reply.

Seems this is a 'common' mistake, loosening the mandrel spring screws.

My model must be different enough because what you're describing doesn't do it for me :(

I found an answer on this thread - the end nut has to come off.. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=44261&p=292512&hili ... ne#p292512
