Is this worth bothering with?

Post by Vintage Rosie »

Hi everyone, can you have a look at this gramophone on the pics for the auction at Greenwich and let me know your thoughts please.

I could use it as a prop for my party props hire business, but what should I pay???? Mmmmmmmmm.

yes go for it , horn is definitely original , base not sure as picture not very good , total repros often sell on Ebay for £160 so must be worth that and you may get it for £80 ! Best of Luck !

At least it is not a crapophone. Looks like a standard generic late teens German / Swiss machine. Horn is nice. They have pretty low estimates; £20 to 30. Would be better to see more photographs of the cabinet to ensure that it is untampered with - eg replaced notor would be a show stopper for me. If everything was correct (Never heard the Dansaphone name before) I suppose up to £200 would still be reasonable.

For party props, the cannon would be interesting. The Moorcroft vase is cheap, as are the cigars.

good luck

Yes it does appear genuine as far as can be seen from the picture, and even if it proves to be a non-runner it might be worth £100 just as a prop, but don't forget to factor in the Buyer's Premium when bidding.

If you buy it and it needs repairing, I have no doubt that Mike(Soundgen) could repair it.

Thanks guys, might give it a punt if I can be arsed to drive over there, I am used to auctions so know whats what and I am well used to this auctioneer, ten pound Bob I call him haha! Everything bleedin well starts at ten pounds, let's see, I have yet another HMV 102 coming in the post from ebay, the blue one I bought is lovely, the first one is still sitting there looking all forlorn, needs work, and I still can't believe I spent £95 on it plus post!! (theres one born every minute) My Columbia 112A sounds ropey again so I can only assume it's the soundbox which i've only just had repaired???? (gaskets maybe?) but if I get this one that will be it, no more, or I will end up getting divorce papers from him indoors lolol!! :D
