Garrard Spring Motor for EMG?

Post by Garret »

Hello, all!

I spotted this motor on eBay and had a few questions, as curiosity has gotten the better of me. Is the motor circled a Garrard spring motor? What is the purpose of the lever in the upper left hand corner? Is this the sort of Garrard that went in the EMGs?

Many thanks for your insight!

I suspect that lever is for an auto-stop mechanism which would be tripped by the tonearm. As far as I know, EMG never used auto-stops, but the motor itself certainly looks Garrard to my eyes.

It may also be a Collaro. They sometimes used a bedplate almost identical to what Garrard used, and I have seen a few Collaro's with the auto-stop level like this one has.
Keepin' it real.
