Needs to be replaced, the steel fatigued. I recommend extreme care when removing it, the pieces have sharp edges and may eject with high energy. The best would be to push the spring parts with a screwdriver having the barrel inside a thick cloth sack.

Ditto, absolutely impossible to repair, even in case it would immediately break in another point. Needs to be replaced.

Some say that this happens when a phono/gramo is left wounded up and then stored in a place with temperatures below zero.

Welcome to the forum

You need to measure the length and width of the spring and take note of the type of ends you need to replace the spring. Make SURE you mark the direction of the spring with a marker on tape so the new spring is installed the same direction.

Hello again

I've bought this HMV gramophone and got it very cheap. It was standing inside a red cross shop in Copenhagen and I got it for about 45 dollars(VERY Cheap)
The spring is broken and the soundbox is missing. The tonearm needs a small screw(but I think, I have one in spare parts)

What do you guys think of my buy?
