In my opinion, instead, what you got is a tonearm for a "Victrola"-type internal horn machine, and it is now assembled upside-down. Which would explain why the goose neck faces the wrong side.

Uhm, my tonearm is different from Victrola's, because it has this kind of hole that fits into the little slot that you can see in the screw that in turn fits into the tone arm that I showed in one of my posts before and the two pieces are held together by a tiny screw.
I know that explaining it with my English makes all more complicated :)
