I assume this means that HMV allowed other companies to use their designs / parts under licence.

Maybe HMV even made them for the third party company ?

This Maxitone does look a bit like an HMV Portable I suppose.

I am probably the last to know, but I didn't know they did that.

So this is one I posted about in 2015 , for some reason there is no transfer on it but is identical to the Maxitone in this thread , I still have it somewhere minus the Exhibition soundbox it came with and if anyone wants it let me know , can be £30 collected or posted which would be additional

That makes two of us, I had never heard of these licensed brands. The machine looks quite similar, but not identical to the 102. The lid holder is from the 101, but the one soundgen showed has the 102 holder.

The red machine pictured is for sale about 30 miles from me, but at a £175 "Buy it Now" price the seller is unlikely to be trampled in the rush to purchase.

Out of curiosity, I looked up the patent on https://worldwide.espacenet.com/advance ... cale=en_EP
and found this

Page bookmark GB273815 (A) - Improvements in talking machines
Inventor(s):
Applicant(s): GRAMOPHONE CO LTD; HORACE LEOPOLD TUCKER BUCKLE +
Classification:
- international: G11B17/02
- cooperative:
G11B17/02 (EP)
Application number: GB19260009455 19260409
Priority number(s): GB19260009455 19260409

SEE -- https://worldwide.espacenet.com/publica ... 815A&KC=A#

Unfortunately, they only provide an abstract that looks to cover a hinge or lever or something. I'm not sure what it is I'm looking at.

The patent disclaimer found on the gramophone may concern something relatively minor, such as the needle compartment, carrying handle, locking hinge, etc..

I wish the UK patents were online, like the US patents are. Anything to make it harder for people to do research!
