Is this a real HMV??

Post by old-bloke »

Hi
It's been a long time since I've been on this site....good to be back.
I was given a couple of players from a friend and the photos shows one of them.
I'm not sure what I have with this one or whether it is "real" or a repro.
The tone arm mount leaves a lot to be desired which leads me to think it is a cheap repro.
The motor looks good....seems to be a dual spring system....nice and sturdy.
There are no "markings" on the motor and I don't have a crank handle.
It would be great to know what I have!!
Cheers

Please accept this in good spirit--but I'm afraid that what we have here is a genuine, authentic, dyed-in-the-wool Crap-o-phone.

As Archie Bunker of my favourite classic American TV sitcom "All in the Family" would say, "Crap-ola."

Nothing about this machine appears to be from an authentic external-horn HMV machine except possibly the taper arm without the reproducer. If I'm wrong, someone please chime in and correct me.

I hope you didn't pay very much for it.

Steven

Thanks for the info Steven....just as I suspected
BTW I paid very little for it.....and sorry about the CRAPOLA photos...
I think I'll still try and get it together and working.I'm in desperate need of a project at the moment and this will fit the bill.
I have a very nice repro horn that would look good on it....still keeping it a very cheap project.
Does anyone recognise the motor?
I need a winding handle for it.
I'll try and work out the screw in thread size as it's smaller than HMV 101s and 109 which is the only ones I have to compare.
Cheers

No worries---as long as there's not a lot of money involved in these things then enjoy and have fun!!
