Information about Meritone

Post by Sa564 »

Hi all,

I'm a complete gramophone novice but I really love the way this all mechanical machines can produce music and am looking to get more into the things. I have this Meritone gramophone cabinet I got from my parents and am now servicing it a bit. I gave it a little clean and changed the rubbers in the soundbox a bit and it is already sounding a lot better.
Now, I'm curious about its story and about the brand Meritone. Tried googling but I can't seem to find any info about the brand or the cabinet itself. So I was wondering if anyone knows anything about Meritone and what models they made. Were they any good? It's obviously not like an Edison or Victor but still. I'm not able to take a picture at the moment but I found a picture on the internet of the exact same model.

Gramophones made by "T.D. & B. Ltd London " whoever they were , lots of portables , probably a generic maker buying in bits !
