Was this a rare HMV portable at auction ?

I am learning all the time (but don't know that much yet).

I wonder though, I would have said that this is a rare, brown, early, front winding HMV 101 portable - which sold for £ 25.

The winding slot at the front looks a bit too far to the right thought - which has me puzzled.

Am I correct with my thoughts I wonder ? Thank you for any advice you can give.

No, it wasn't a rare HMV. Judging by the needle tray and the case clasp, it was an el cheapo, something like a "Mayfair". The front-winding 101 was only made in black.

What you thought was the winding handle escutcheon is the push button release for the needle bin, and I also notice that the carrying handle is missing.

As Phono48 says, the machine is nothing special, and £25 is about the right price in a general sale.

Keep looking and do not be discouraged. We were all beginners once.

Fantastic ! Thank you very much both of you. I am now wiser and am glad I didn't miss buying something like a rare HMV 101 !
