Hi all.

So have come across another colonial portable. I think its genuine but I couldn't find any reference in Dave Coopers book. And while I've seen many references to teak / colonial 100s & 101s on web and in this forum, not sure if 102 even came in teak. Or if this is another typical frank-en-phone. And I found this in Delhi thru contacts so only have these snaps to go by.

Any advice or thoughts would be great.

Lastly, a few of you contacted me about the teak 100 I had posted earlier. After repeatedly asking, the seller now wants between 300 - 400$ for the case. And my frank opinion is its probably missing the horn and the motor too since he refuses to share more snaps citing how busy he is etc. So will keep you updated on that and happy to put the interested few in touch if he seems genuine.

There is, very rare, and very nice. You really would be a foul not to buy all those machines, as there is quite substantial money to be made

nice machine BUT overcoated with really horrible varnish which needs removing if possible they seem to have coated the metal corners as well a the labels

It was made in 1940-- I don't know how long they continued assembling machines in Calcutta; manufacture of gramophones at Hayes ceased altogether in 1941, until 1945.

Yup. I had dated it to 1940. Am guessing that the Calcutta factory continued to assemble machines as long as stocks were around. For example I think by 1940, the ferules were made of plastic in the 102s not metal, but this being a colonial, the factory probably had metal stocks lying around and used that

I don't think this is correct I have had 102s presumablymade during the war period , they didn't have trays but a label saying trays weren't available due to metal shortages

Apologies. Thought I had read somewhere that it was made in plastic / black after 1940. But now cant find the refernce so obviously I was confused or thinking of another model

Production continued into the war, but not after 1941. Models made in 1941 (including 'equipments', i.e. kits of parts for sending to India), were 113A, 97D, 88A, 102D, 102C. Also Columbia 204E, 211A, 211, 206. Serial numbers indicate that there were 10,000 102D, but only 1000 102C in that year. None were produced in 1942, 43 or 44.
