My gut reaction is that it's a genuine HMV.
The 'folk art' painting on the horn is rather unusual, though.

It appears to be an Intermediate Monarch Model 2. Hopefully the added artwork on the horn can be removed with care.

I think the artwork is kind of cool and part of the history. I think either the horn or elbow is the wrong one though as the drawings and the Nipper are all upside down.epigramophone wrote:It appears to be an Intermediate Monarch Model 2. Looks perfectly genuine to me; the reason the trade mark on the horn is upside down is probably that the horn has shifted round within the metal'cuff' that fits into the elbow. Strictly speaking, it's a model 2, not an Intermediate Monarch (that name was dropped before the mahogany case came in.) If it was made between September 1912 and August 1913, it's a 2A. If it was made between July 1922 S October 1925, it's a Model 20. Have you looked underneath to see if there's a date?

I haven't because it's not in my possession, but I'm thinking about bidding on it. Here are several pictures the seller has added.Oedipus wrote:Looks perfectly genuine to me; the reason the trade mark on the horn is upside down is probably that the horn has shifted round within the metal'cuff' that fits into the elbow. I know nothing but what I like. I do like this machine. I'd leave the art work too. I'd bid on it too! Neil
