This is being offered for sale near-ish to me for $200. I'm not terribly familiar with the HMV uprights, but was thinking this might be the intermediate model with the multi-chamber expo horn? Thank you in advance.

That looks like an HMV 157, which would have contained a bifurcated (two-section) exponential horn.

I rather agree. It looks as if someone tried to (poorly) replicate the original grille, from pictures I pulled up on the web about the HMV 157.

Yes and the tone arm is from an HMV 102 portable , so has it even got the original horn inside or is it a totally rebuilt empty casr ?

Thanks to all. "You get what you pay for" was never truer. Bunged-up grille and incorrect tonearm. Pass.

It is a 3-hour drive from me, so won't be going to inspect it, I reckon.

Next!

Best,
Charlie

Certainly a pass. If it were in your back yard it might be worth investigating to see if it has enough parts worth making a low offer.

so true ! I put a 5A soundbox on Ebay recently with a low start and a BIN of £60 it made £102 in the auction :D BUT looking closer at the picture I think the winder is non HMV and the turntable also so has probably been remotored as well
