Broken HMV 100 - Help / Advice please.

Post by poodling around »

The problem is that the arm will not move any further than the turntable edge. (photo's below).

Is the machine missing a part or has the mechanism become detached somehow ?

I have read that the tonearm is supposed to raise as it is moved - but it doesn't seem to engage properly nor raise and gets stuck.

Thank you for any help you can give.

I just saw a you tube video which suggested that maybe the tone arm 'mechanism' is 'frozen solid' by old grease which is now more like glue.

If this is the case how can I dismantle / clean this -could I simply emerge it in oil for a few days to initially 'free' the mechanism ?

Very good news !

I woke up this morning and, having soaked it in oil overnight - it worked perfectly !

So, a little more soaking for good luck and we have another happy ending - and a fully working HMV 100 !
