I can see why this machine went for so much. It is absolutely flawless and original. In this hobby or any other collecting hobby, remember this: CONDITION, CONDITION,CONDITION. An perfect, unrestored machine will always go high. This one is no exception.

I think they have come down in price. I remember (pre-Ebay) I was selling near mint red Gem's for over $2000.00+ and there was a line up to buy one.

I must be looking at a different machine... The pictures I saw were far from flawless.

True it's a great machine and great looking but besides the multitude of scratches and some discoloring on the horn, even the Edison decal on the front of the machine looked a little weak...

Hailey, don't be so cheap and hire some decent spiders to do a proper job around your house..... Trying to give them nothing will only give you the same back....  .

As for the Gem.....there is also pinstripe "total" wear above and below the speed control knob. All in all....I think the selling price was about right to a guy that "had to have one" in clean over all condition.

Since the cosmetic condition of this untouched Maroon Gem is such a topic on this thread, I will document said specimen before the eBay ad goes away.
