"1915 Edison Pathé`" on e-bay...

Post by De Soto Frank »

(ahem )...

Read the listing and see if you can figure-out how they determined the "make"... ;)

Looks like SAAL hardware under the lid... my bet is it's a Silvertone...

Silvertones have a little plate to hold the vertical adapter and the jewel styluses. Some of the plates have the stylus holes designated EDISON and Pathé. (My plate just has JEWEL STYLUS by the holes)

A very nice machine, but worth about $200 maximum.

I'm kind of used to seeing listings for "Edison Victrola", "Brunswick Victrola", "Columbia Victrola", and so-on, but this is the first time I have encountered an "Edison Pathé` "

(Although I will say that there is more than a passing resemblance between the cabinet of my Pathéphone VII and my former Edison S-19 Diamond Disc player... I wouldn't be surprised if both cabinets were made by the same jobber...)

It's an overpriced Silvertone. The seller sees the plate that says Edison and Pathé. Then they assumes it was made by both Edison, and Pathé. A typical antique dealer with no knowledge of phonographs. Then they come up with some ridiculous, inflated price. My 2 cents worth.

Concur with you Harvey. My Silvertone has the same plate.

Some sellers see handsome cabinets and just don't realize that the market is not strong for average uprights.

"An signed "Edison Pathé" wind up phonograph or record player works beautifully. The original signature label inside is engraved, this machine appears licensed by Edison but by a different maker."

Don't know about you guys, but I have always wanted a rare signed Edison Pathé machine...
