Playing Columbia BC cylinders on Edison in Records

I wonder if you can play a Columbia BC (3 minute)cylinder on an Edison phonograph without an end gate?edisonplayer

You can probably play 2/3rds of it... but the feedscrew won't carry the reproducer far enough to play the entire cylinder.

...and then it will repeat until you stop it, and it's highly likely that will damage the record at that spot.

I remember seeing a Columbia BC box in a local antique shop several years ago. However, there was no cylinder inside.I wish now that I had bought that box! I would LOVE to find another empty BC box provided it isn't too expensive!edisonplayer
