Someone put a generic Orthophonic-type reproducer on the machine, probably in the mid to late '20's to replace the original Exhibition.edisonplayer

Might not be strictly correct historically, but not a crapophone by any means. Couldn't this just as likely have been fixed/upgraded 90 years ago to play new electric records? Was such a thing commonly done?

It could have been updated back in the day, or someone may have put it together last week. No way to know, but it's no big deal. Exhibition reproducers are common and it takes 2 seconds to install. This is certainly not some horrible butcher job.

I was looking at the crook attached to the tonearm backwards. Isn't that incorrect?

That, the missing crank escutcheon, speed control cranked all the way down, wrong door knobs, no slats in the horn...hearsedriver wrote:I was looking at the crook attached to the tonearm backwards. Isn't that incorrect?

Re: Whats wrong with this picture??
Well, the missing slats on the horn was probably that way to begin with. The Victrola IV from 1917 had no slats on the horn, they were later added back again in 1918. Also, it looks like the turntable was painted black, so that is another thing wrong with it.gramophone-georg wrote:That, the missing crank escutcheon, speed control cranked all the way down, wrong door knobs, no slats in the horn...hearsedriver wrote:I was looking at the crook attached to the tonearm backwards.
