Thanks Fran - I suspected you'd have some good points to offer.
The silicate dividers are record label eaters for sure. But keep in mind that until 1921, Edison discs bore etched labels, so this problem didn't surface until a couple of years after the silicate dividers appeared - possibly longer since the labels/adhesives were fresh.
