It's out in Richmond, and WAY too far away for me to give it much though. It's kind of interesting looking though.

This is very likely the guts of a VV-410 inside a custom made cabinet. This is an interesting and desirable machine, but maybe not for that whole price. Nonetheless teasing, since it is extremely close to me!

It's been reduced to $795, apparently....
An interesting item, although (imho) the paintings seem to be of less than professional quality, especially in the background...

Victor had a custom department which would match a gramophone to any make of furniture you had in your home

I don't think this is from the Victor custom department.
It looks to have legs from a VV-405.

I noticed that too- I think this was put together by a cabinet shop using parts from a 405, and possibly some other machines. Impressive.

It's interesting that whoever did it went to the trouble of using hardware from an older Victrola and not the knobs or key escutcheon from the VV-405. The 405 wouldn't have a lid lock anyway. That's the part of it that kind of made me wonder who would have gone to the trouble of sourcing the earlier style hardware for the thing? It's not anything I would want in the house, but it is interesting. It's too bad they didn't post a picture of the lid decal. That's usually where the aftermarket decorators got into trouble of course.

The mis-matched case and undercarriage give the machine a top heavy appearance, and I also have my doubts about the artwork. Bill has already commented on it's poor quality and I see no signs of age or wear, leading me to suspect that it may be of recent origin.
The dragon on the grille cloth, not that Victrolas of this period had a grille cloth, looks as though it has escaped from a Chinese restaurant.

why wouldn't Victor customise an original gramophone ? This was regularly done in the UK for Harrods having HMV machines refinished particularly with Chinoiserie
