99 bids in ebay

Post by gramotalk »

I have seen several auctions in ebay that finish in 99. Is this suspect?
I mean, if I want an object I would prefer to bid for 1001, and not for 999.
When I see that auction ends like 999 I suspect that the seller has bid for 899 to sure his minumun price.
What do you think?

It can be suspect, but it doesn't mean that that it is. It is impossible to know. If I am bidding on something that is fairly expensive, I look at the buyers feedback, and sometimes at what they have sold recently. You have to be careful doing business online, but you also have to be careful not to cross the line into paranoia, (that is a general statement and not directed at the originator of the post, I often wonder about some bids too). You take your chances on ebay and hopefully it all comes out in the wash. Using ebay is a choice, so if someone doesn't trust the system they can try to change it or avoid it. I approach ebay with caution, but I am glad that it is out there.
