I have grown to accept it- the term "Tiger Maple" has been around for many decades, and the terms "Flame" and "Ribbon" are commonly used to describe mahogany grain.

What gets me annoyed is when people can't identify Mahogany- these days there are three woods: Oak, Walnut, and Cherry.

The correct term is Quartersawn Oak or simply Quartered Oak. Tiger Oak is used by lay people who are not familiar with antique terminology.
