Whatever the machine in the first picture may be, it is not an HMV 302. The 302 was a post war standard black portable with a single spring motor.

That one has a tag indicating that it was assembled in India, but apart from that it looks like a run-of-the-mill machine. It may be attractive for the completist collector, but again beware: the photos show a suspicious extra hole on the motor board.

Don't worry it is an original HMV India machine ,I have seen them before

Certainly the winder is incorrect, but who knows?

What's wrong with it? Just curious!

The 102 has a different wood handle, pear-shaped and not conical like the one in the photo.

The handle is from a Columbia version , HMV shipped lots of spare parts to Dum Dum in India so machines turn up with odd bits , they were all made by HMV India

Not all of the 102s had the wooden grip. The bakelite "fishtail" grip was fitted to quite a few, as in this case. I have two 102s with this version of the grip. In the picture, it does look odd because we are looking at the narrow elevation. It's a larger version of the grip fitted to the HMV 97.

2 things worry me:

- The "missing" location stud on the left side. Looks like it was never there. All my other teak machines have two, with corresponding metal holes.

- The missing numbers and letters. Either there are none or it was revarnished.



Concerning the handle grip. My other 102 has the exact same grip, so that should be fine.

These are " end of line" machines assembled in India from bits sent to them from England , don't expect them to have the same fitments !
