Nice machine. The mica diaphragm makes me think 1920s during the "Portable craze." Neat historic reference and a fun-looking machine. Did you get it?

It is possible that the Platt Music Co was the retailer, not the manufacturer.

You could well be right, but this link doesn't make it clear whether or not Platt actually made the machines.

Didn't buy it yet. Going over to take a look at it.
No original crank, just a piece of metal.
Asking $100. Worth that, or I'll make an offer.
Said it's in working condition.

I think it is a little high for an off-brand portable. It's a project machine. Check the parts to see if there is pot metal. If you can talk them down, I would try. The crank might be hard to get.

Generic portable, probably made with imported parts in an American case. I've dealt with similar ones & the arm is stamped metal, usually steel. The soundbox might be pot metal but if is isn't cracked it is rebuildable- that sort everyrhing comes out the front side & the tubing holds in the mica, if it is cracked the arm usually has a standard bayonet slot so many will fit it. If the bent rod crank is properly threaded you might be able to get a knob onto it, the original would have also been a bent rod. I agree though, $100 is a bit stiff for something with that rough a case.
