Yes, these WECo Non-synchronous Reproducer sets are the berries.

I had a 201-A set with the Victor Universal Motor, and another 203-A, which was also fitted with Victor Universal motors, just like your unit. I parted with them when I found a 203-B, which is the same assembly fitted with massive Crocker-Wheeler induction disc motors which sport 20lb turntable platters. The performance.

The 203-A is by far my favorite electric reproduced. Someone in Seattle got quite a deal at $5000!

Billybobbojim,

You not only saved an incredible unit, but you presented it in the sale with photos and YouTube perfectly!

Great job! :ugeek:

James.

PS - I just did some googling, so these used to add sound to early talking pictures in theaters. I'm guessing those Victor Theatre Use records were used with this type of unit?

The 203 reproducer set, with its fader and queuing tabs was indeed leased for use with the Pict-Ur-Music discs. The 203 reproduced was part of the standard Vitaphone installation. It was used for background and entre-act music, as well as for providing orchestral accompnament for otherwise silent pictures.

It looks like it could play the 16" movie soundtrack discs. Some theaters wanted to play talkie movies but couldn't afford the very expensive sound on film projectors so the soundtracks were produced on 16" discs with each side supplying sound for 1 reel of the movie. This would have been perfect for that! Cool!

Here is a set of soundtrack discs for a 1929 movie NEW ORLEANS:
