Busy Bee Grand (front mount horn) - Advice Wanted

Post by donniej »

I found this one at an antique store, they're asking $425. It works but the reproducer is clearly wrong for it. I'm out of town visiting family and would need to pay to ship it.
What would be too good of a deal to say no to?
Thank you.

This may be a bit steep. It looks like it also has the rectangular slug knocked off the turntable or a replacement turntable. Is the crank there? If it is missing, that would be another thing to put in the minus column.

I would pass on this for that price. The reproducer is nearly impossible to get. I'm not sure if reproduction ones are available. Same with the crank. Some people will substitute an Edison "S" shaped crank, which is wrong, but works. The turntable is another question. The earliest ones had a nub cast on the turntable. The later ones had a nub held on with screws and sometimes these were removed, for regular 78's. Busy Bee machines are fairly common, and a better example will eventually show up.
