***1901 Edison Standard Model A Phonograph***(SOLD)

I have listed this 1901 Edison Standard Model A on Ebay.

It's a beautiful machine and it works great! (I can deliver to Union for free)

My only question is: How can you prevent a bidder with "ZERO" feedback from bidding?
It's not that I don't trust a new bidder with zero feedback, but,
"I DON'T TRUST A NEW BIDDER WITH ZERO FEEDBACK!"

Cheers, Bob S.

Problem is... you can't. People can even bid as a "guest" without having an account now.

Bob, first off this is a beautiful Standard. I know what you mean about zero feedback bidders, I recently had a bidder use the Buy it Now for my Siam Soo on eBay. It was $500 and I was hesitant when I saw the zero feedback. Of course I received no payment and several days later I was finally refunded my eBay fees. But what really irked me is that I was unable to leave Negative feedback for this deadbeat. Since then he has made purchases and has a 100% feedback. That is just not the way it should be in my opinion. I challenged the authorities but got nowhere, not even so much as an explanation as to why. Oh, well, I re-listed the doll and sold it but not for that much money. Good luck with your A model. Joe

That is a beautiful phonograph.. You just started the bid so hopefully he will drop out. the zero bidder has bid on 5 items and I guess has not won one yet. Hopefully he is legit. Can you delay mailing it out till the payment has cleared. ?? Tom

I received this note from Ebay.

eBay
Suspicious buyer for item

Hello zwebie,
We had to cancel bids for the buyer, bla3520, because they aren't registered on eBay:
112911255258 - ***1901 Edison Standard Model A Phonograph***

Looks like someone turned him in.
I can't believe that non registered people can bid!
Ebay also suggested that I accept "PayPal Only", thus discouraging bidders who don't have an account.

Cheers, Bob S.

If someone on the Forum want's this, I will do $450 + shipping, (free delivery to Union).

He was registered when he bid. For some reason, eBay suddenly booted him. Must have been some pretty egregious shenanigans going on for eBay to even take notice.

They suggested you take "PayPal Only"? Hasn't that been MANDATORY for almost a decade now? As if that actually "protects" you somehow when what it actually does is allow an experienced scammer to take multiple bites of the same apple.

A bizarre eBay protocol is that you can't block buyers (on the basis of feedback) unless they have a feedback of -1 or worse. Now, I ask, how is that possible since negative feedbacks cannot be left for buyers?

On the other hand, much to my pleasant surprise, I have made some sales to buyers with zero feedbacks and they turned out to be 100% legit.

Buyers could get negative FB prior to April 2008, and that rule stems from that era. The entire eBay setup is just corrupt.

You can leave a "positive" feedback, but say negative things within it I suppose?

Buyer will report it and it will be removed and the seller gets a policy violation.
