Type A Victor with an Eldridge Johnson Concert reproducer. And it's a very early Type A Victor at that. What a nice find for that guy. And 57 7" discs that likely were with the machine.

I find this lot fascinating!!

It gives every evidence that it is, as it was, when it came from the dealer. However, it has an all brass horn of the size and construction that would normally be associated with a Zonophone of the same period. Eldrige Johnson and Frank Seaman (Zonophone) were definitely competitors. It just speaks to the possibility that a dealer made accommodations to the customer. It certainly isn't what you would expect to see from "I Saw It In the Catalog", but it has every shred of evidence of being completely legitimate.

There is more variation out there than we expect or know!!

Fascinating indeed and it seems to also have come with a whole bunch of period discs, a bit sadly being sold separately and individually. :(

Speaking of "I Saw It In The Catalog"!

I dug up an Allen Koenigsberg reprint of a 1900 Eldridge R. Johnson, Consolidated Talking Machine Co., Improved Gram-o-phone, Catalog.
It shows that the Type "A" came equipped with a 16" japanned funnel horn.
On page #17 it shows that you can upgrade your machine with a Burnished Brass Horn for $1.50.

I have no doubt that this setup is totally legitimate.

Cheers, Bob S.

I saw this the other day. Someone needs to go for it, mainly because of the ubergeek appeal: "Actually, it's not a Berliner, it's an Eldridge Johnson!" That's awesome just to know some of these old-timers survived!

Maybe this is not news to anyone else, but I did not know that what appears to be a Clark Johnson was cataloged as an Improved Exhibition.

The machine looks to be complete, minus the brake actuating lever. It would be nice to see the motor or at least the fiber gear before paying too much. It's nice that it still has the record hold down.
