Edison - Bell in the UK also marketed the Bettini design of reproducer , which they termed as a " Microphone reproducer ". As Edison - Bell had close ties with Pathé in France ( for instance Edison - Bell contracted Pathé to supply all the blanks for their Concert size cylinders ) no doubt the Edison - Bell Microphone reproducers were also of Pathé origin. I have a lovely little original promotional booklet issued by Edison - Bell in 1899 which shows their " large commercial " machine -- actually an Edison Spring Motor phonograph -- which they term as their " Edison - Bell Phonograph No 4 " priced at £25.4s. ( Twenty five pounds and four shillings ) . The Spring Motor phonograph when fitted with the " Microphone reproducer " and Bettini pattern horn , became Edison - Bell's " Phonograph No. 6 " at the then exhorbitant price of £32. 14s ( 32 pounds and 14 shillings) ! By comparison , the annual salary at the time for a Policeman was around £55. Regards Dulcetto
