Nice machine. I had one years ago that I sold when I needed money to buy my house, I think I got about this much back then in 1984. Anybody know what the little brown (rusty iron?) piece is next to the turntable, at about the 3:00 position?
This 230 looks to have green velvet as the turntable covering, hadn't seen that on a Victrola before. I had a collector friend sell me his VE-230 about 3 years ago, that one has a brown felt turntable covering. Probably what Victor was using as they were getting ready to unload the old line before the Orthophonic series was released.

I believe the item you describe is the light bulb, but it seems to have been coated or replaced at some point.

the light bulb is visible in the back right corner of the playing area... the piece of metal to the right of the turntable appears to be something else... possibly part of a mount for some sort of playing device like a repeater?

oh good eye! I misunderstood. You are right in that it is likely an add on of some sort. A repeater is a logical guess. It could also be some sort of toy. Whoever buys this should try and figure it out!
