A unique opportunity awaits someone this November, as we offer this rare and beautiful Edison Talking Doll from the Rene´ Rondeau Collection, with no reserve.

The doll is in superb condition, with no damage to the head or limbs.

The dress is a reproduction but it is correct to the period.

The most important thing is that the phonograph is original. The vast majority of surviving dolls were sold after the lawsuit ended in 1896, and were liquidated without phonographs. Only a tiny number were sold with phonographs, and only for a few weeks in 1890. Consequently most of the dolls in collections today either have no phonograph, or a reproduction.

Both the body and the phonograph have full patent information stamped into them. Most phonographs have the patent info on a paper label pasted to the tiny horn. This is one of the few with that information stamped directly into the metal.

The record is one of Jean-Paul's unbreakable cylinders so it is suitable for playing (the original steel stylus wore out records very quickly when these were new).

Comprehensive detail available at Rene’s website:

I've made a decision, in the face of advancing age and infirmity, to divest my collection of upright phonographs and music boxes. Thus I've sent Steve a number of these pieces; of particular note are a HMV-14 (similar to a VTLA) and Sonora Grand, each of rare Circassian walnut. They are now shown on the Stanton Auction website.

This is going to be a super auction, even better than usual. My plane tickets are already booked.

Very nice original-looking Victor XX. For the sake of posterity, hope the new buyer does not slather gold leaf all over it.

Fantastic Record Cabinet!

Describes this offering, identified as Lot 92 in our catalog.

A rare Herzog mahogany disc record cabinet. “No. 820”. The pillars and column capitals are the same as that on a Victor VI phonograph. The cabinet measures 35” tall x 17-¾” deep x 17-⅜” wide. First shown in the August 1907 Talking Machine World, this model was produced for one year. The cabinet is pictured on page 110 of Antique Phonographs, Gadgets, Gizmos & Gimmicks by Fabrizio and Paul. This is a wonderful example that we have offered in oak before, but seldom in mahogany. The cabinet could be refinished, but is in very good condition.
