Hiya folks,
https://www.ebay.com/itm/old-vtg-antiqu ... :rk:7:pf:0
Not mine, I just stumbled across it through my daily searches. Seems like a pretty decent price, for what could be a great 4-minute Phonograph. Comes with 40 cylinders. Looks like the motor plate might need a little TLC though.
Best regards,
Fran

Re: eBay Amberola V - BIN $399 Pickup only Antioch Illinois
Just to clarify, it's a VI, not a V (notice the start / stop lever location and the lack of an auto stop mechanism).

This is a VI, not a V, which although interesting in its own right is nowhere near as elegant nor as good of a performer as the V.
In general though, Fran, I think you should be able to do better than the level of this example. The bedplate paint - just like that used on the V - looks pretty flakey, literally, and will really drag it down. Have you gotten the price for the V at the meet? I bet Tim would bring it back north for you, if you’re really nice to him.
On this one if still under consideration, at the very least, get some decent photos. You really can’t see much of anything in these.

Gawd, don't I feel stupid.OrthoSean wrote:Just to clarify, it's a VI, not a V (notice the start / stop lever location and the lack of an auto stop mechanism).

I looked right at that, too. I also thought something looked a bit strange with the mechanism. Bad day...
Thanks Sean! I'll amend the listing somehow.

You're quite right of course, Peter. My YUGE mistake! I don't know what I was thinking (or more precisely what I wasn't thinking!)PeterF wrote:This is a VI, not a V, which although interesting in its own right is nowhere near as elegant nor as good of a performer as the V.

I've amended my OP to reflect a little more accuracy on my part.
Thanks!

I understand the Amberola VI has a very noisy motor. I have heard that the motor noise can often be louder than the record.

Re: eBay Amberola VI - BIN $399 Pickup only Antioch Illinois
Some are noisy, and some are not, and I think I remember that the factory did an update to remedy that in response to complaints. I've only ever had one of them, and it was usable as-is. But it wasn't too compelling overall, so it went away.
I suppose the only reasons to have one are when you are trying to collect an example of each type Amberola, or you haven't yet found a V, or it comes to you super cheaply...etc.
