I messaged her about it yesterday and said I wanted to go get it, but couldn't make it out there till Tomorrow due to work. She sent me a message today canceling saying she sold it. I guess "gentlemen's" agreements" are a thing of the past. Oh well, hope another nice Victrola upright comes available in the area.

Travis, that is really brutal. Almost happened to me once when a machine I'd already made a deal on was put up as an alert here. The seller told another buyer that she could "unsell" it if he had a better offer. He declined out of respect for the deal I'd already made, and became a member of the forum just to tell the story. I've always been grateful to him for being honorable. Many people just aren't anymore, and I'm sure the relative anonymity of the internet, especially social media, helps that along.

I'm sorry you missed a nice machine because of it. The phono-gods (heck, karma) owe you some sweet finds ahead. They're out there; they'll come.

That was a nice thing for him to do. Thanks for sharing. It is good to hear about the "good guys" in this hobby from time to time because it is filled with mostly good people (though I doubt she is in the hobby to be fair).

Anyway, off to the "What annoys you in phonograph and record collecting?" thread to vent! :P Just kidding.

That sucks. Every time something like this sells to a non-forum member, my pessimistic self jumps to the conclusion that it got turned into a wine cabinet... I hope I'm wrong and it is going to an appreciative owner.
