Sonora Tonalic Oxford, Massachusetts $300.
Seems like a pretty reasonable price for a high end Sonora. It's to far for me to obtain. I hope someone on the forum gets it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sonora-Tonalic ... SwsRBdvZqB

Looks like a nice machine, probably inspired by Credenza and similar machines. Would be interesting if the horn is really following similar principles. The carrying handles are kind of comical, considering the weight of such machines. Still, a higher end machine in good condition as it seems.

These machines do have large horns in them, similar to that of a Brunswick Cortez but squared rather than rounded. I've seen one of these in person and they're pretty cool. I don't recall seeing side handles on the one I saw years back, so maybe these were added later? Maybe my memory fails. I'd love to have this to go with my fleet of full size ortho-era machines and it's even close enough. Recent expenses and space, however, prevent it from happening.
I do hope someone gets it.

If only it weren’t quite so far away.

I am lucky to own one of these instruments. That is actually my Sonora in the YouTube video posted above. They are fantastic instruments. The Philharmonic has a large exponential type horn that I find to be very responsive. It is one of my favorite instruments I have and is of wonderful quality. Someone should surely add this instrument to their collection!

I did give into temptation and get this. I did have to repair the connection of the horn to the tonearm mount; it had shifted and the end was sitting an inch or so below the mounting board when I brought it home. The Philharmonic is a large machine and sounds good now that everything is connected. The top is in bad shape but the rest of the cabinet is in good shape. Apparently the cabinet design was the focus of Sonora advertising in 1927. My main problem is now where to find room for three large cabinets—Credenza, Philharmonic, and 8-12—with all the other machines in the parlor, entry hall, living room, and dining room. I really don’t want to move any of them to the second or third floor.

Glad you picked this up. It is a great sounding instrument. I had the same issue with mine with the horn - it had dropped from the bottom of the tonearm and had to be hooked up again. I use an orthophonic or HMV 5A reproducer when playing records on it. The Sonora 5 can be a little heavy and rough on records and surprisingly enough the orthophonic reproducer fits perfectly on the Sonora tonearm.
Congratulations and enjoy!

That's great to hear! And thanks for putting my mind at ease . I kept thinking and thinking about this machine and almost pulled the trigger several times between Friday and Saturday.

I'm glad a member of the forum got it. It would have been a shame to see it converted into a bar/liquor cabinet.
