It is the predecessor to the later model 157, same concept and market niche, but with the later version thick tonearm and 16/5a/b soundbox, while the 156 has the thin tonearm and no4 soundbox. It is part of the 1925 'New Gramophone' generation (Listen to the bass...!!!) all fitted with exponential metal horns, etc, from the HMV harvest.

I remember a friend having an HMV like this,also Jerry Donnell had another HMV.They're not common in this country.edisonplayer.
