Richard E. Taylor

Post by Wagnerian »

Richard Taylor, the Chairman of the Board of the CLPGS passed away yesterday 25th November, surrounded by his family, after a short illness.

For all who knew him will know that he was a larger than life character with a huge enthusiasm and joy for everything he did. His love of Jazz and for early gramophone history was infectious and he was the mainstay of many a late night session in the bar during our AGM weekends.

I will miss him as a colleague but more than that, as a dear friend.

Goodbye Richard

Richard was always the life and soul of every gathering at which he was present, even at the CLPGS Malvern Weekend in October when he was clearly unwell.

His passing is a great loss to the Society and to the wider hobby. May he rest in peace.

Roger.

This is really terribly sad news but thanks for letting our community know.

I had known Richard for nearly 25 years and he was consistently one of the most enthusiastic and friendly characters I've ever met in the world of gramophones. Richard was especially encouraging to me in the early days of my collecting when I had ill-advisedly purchased some machines for restoration. Richard helped to sort out a lot of machines for me over the years and introduced me to many other like-minded people. He will be fondly remembered.

Goodbye Richard and thank you for all the good fun times shared.

I have been asked to pass on this comment from Ken Priestley (Gramophone Repairs / Parts specialist - Holmfirth Antiques) who has tried in vain to create an account over the past couple of days but the system has made it very difficult to do so; moderators please take note!

"Richard Taylor always had a smile, a welcome word, and a hand shake, and he was one of the very few remaining nice people in this trade.
Ken Priestley"

He was one of the best. The CLPGS and the hobby will be the less for his passing.

Richard's funeral will take place at Telford Crematorium on Thursday 10th December at 1.00pm, and will be followed by an informal gathering to celebrate his life.

I shall be unable to attend owing to a prior commitment which I cannot reschedule, but I have no doubt that the CLPGS and the wider hobby will be well represented in honour of Richard's memory.

Roger.
