An absolutely riveting talk from a speaker who had reflected very carefully on the results of this experimental recording project, was able to pin-point the significant findings clearly for us, outline areas for further investigation, and hold the attention of a large audience with both humour and humility - a rare combination.

Even though I covered the project for the BBC in 2014, I came away with a much better grasp of the importance of the results, and the painstaking research which laid the groundwork for this enterprising effort to re-enact Arthur Nikisch and the Berlin Philharmonic's landmark recording of Beethoven's 5th in 1913.

A full write-up of the project (by Aleks and his colleagues) can be found in the Journal of the National Science Museum
