FOR SALE - European G&T Berliner by C.W. Drescher - $65 postpaid Media in the US, worldwide at cost.
European Berliner #40507 by C.W. Drescher, "Das Drahn das is mei Leber" which I think translates to "That's My Liver", V-, even wear, plays and tracks fine with a Pickering 380 and 3.0 stylus. Sounds to me like a German drinking song. Likely pressed around 1898.
I use the internationally recognized VJM record grading system for 78's.
N-. Nearly Mint, but has been played. No visible signs of wear or damage.
E+. Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets.
E. Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches.
E-. Still shiny but without the luster of a new record, few light scratches.
V+. In average condition 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced.
V. Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive.
V-. Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy greying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level.
G+. Grey throughout but still serviceable. Music begins to sound muffled. Heavy scratches.
G. Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still higher than surface noise.
G-. Music still prominent, but wear and scratch damage extensive.
F. Most of music remains audible over surface noise, but listening now uncomfortable.
P. Unplayable.

This is a very weird title, as the German word "drahn" is Bavarian middle high German and is difficult to translate accurately.
The title "Das Drahn das is mei Leben" translates as "The drahn that is my life". Here are some possible meanings for drahn: drahn (past participle draht)
(transitive) to turn
(reflexive) to turn (one’s body), turn around
(transitive) to roll, twist, make something revolve, rotate
(reflexive) to revolve, rotate, spin
(film, transitive or intransitive) to shoot
(transitive, figuratively) to spin, manipulate
The song is definitely some type of drinking song as illustrated by this cartoon:
Das Drahn das is mei Leben, kanns denn was Schönres geben...
The drahn that is my life, can it give something more beautiful...
Whatever that means...??? Probably composed and named after too many beers...

"My life revolves around wonderful things" might be a decent translation. Drehn is a contraction of "Drehen", to spin or revolve. It can also mean to shoot a movie. (one spins the film reel). Funny it doesn't seem to show up in phono/ gramo terminology.
Bayerischen Hochdeutsch is a good guess, but it might also be Swiss in which case all bets are off. Wonder if it is actually an instrumental version of a drinking/ yodeling song?
Any Bavarian or Swiss members in the group?

They all seem to be drinking wine, not beer... if that's a clue...

Probably Austrian; the word "Wien" (Vienna) appears on the label.gramophone-georg wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 10:04 pm Bayerischen Hochdeutsch is a good guess, but it might also be Swiss in which case all bets are off. Wonder if it is actually an instrumental version of a drinking/ yodeling song?
Also, the artist says "gespielt v. Capelle Dresdner" (played by Chapel/Choir of Dresden, which is actually in Germany.) I think therefore that the "C. W. Drescher" signature is actually C[apelle] W[ien] Dresdner, but I could be wrong.

examining it with much zoom, it could be 'Capelle Drescher' , the tall branch of the h in Drescher being half cut by a small chip in the surface. Then, the handwritten signature could be that of the director, Carl Wilhelm Drescher or whatever...

I see "Capelle Drescher", not "Dresdner". And "Capelle" or "Kapelle" is a band or orchestra, as denoted by the notation "Orchester" on the "label" at 3:00.52089 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 11:28 pmProbably Austrian; the word "Wien" (Vienna) appears on the label.gramophone-georg wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 10:04 pm Bayerischen Hochdeutsch is a good guess, but it might also be Swiss in which case all bets are off. From Wikipedia:
Carl (or Karl) Wilhelm Drescher (12 December 1850 – 8 December 1925) was an Austrian violinist and composer. In Vienna he founded and led a successful salon orchestra, which followed the tradition of the Strauss orchestra.
