Edison Amberola 30 in a carrying case?

Post by VictorVV-X »

I am still a novice when it comes to phonographs so bare with me.

I spotted this on the internet today, and was not sure what to make of it. It is, as the nameplate and title say, an Edison Amberola Model 30... but this one is in a box with a cover and a handle with no horn like an earlier machine.... Was this some modification, or was it built this way?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

My best guess is that someone had a mechanism and built the carrying case. Maybe they used a Diamond B reproducer with an elbow and a small horn.

That is weird. It looks like a amberola 30 put in a box but the governor or gear on top is different. If it works it is a conversation piece. Tom B

Do you think that this was some kind of "one-off" machine? Or do you think it is just something that someone put together?
In that case, is it one of those situations where it is worth whatever is someone is willing to pay for it?

Thank you very much, Tomb. It certainly makes one think.

It may be worth about 110$ in spares in the us.

Yes, I believe it's a "one off" but from Woody's Workbench not the factory. The normal Amberola 30 gear cover is missing. The photos were taken from what is normally the back side of the mechanism. That may account for some of the confusion.
