I recently purchased an Edison H-19 diamond disc phono full of Edison DD records. As I pulled the records out of the record storage shelf, I noticed many of them had missing and mangled labels. I thought I could find the labels behind the records slats so I bent a couple apart and brought in a light. I found a letter dated 1938, the instruction manual for the machine, packing slip and inspection slip, a cancelled check from 1941, and an about uncirculated 1938-S Mercury dime. The obverse is bluish grey and the reverse is brilliant with a hint of blue and red. That dime has been sitting in the bottom of this phonograph face up since 1938, 80 years ago. How cool is that?

Great story. I hope to get the dime in a coin holder and keep it with the machine with an explanation letter. That's what I would do anyway.

Re: Found Inside an Edison H-19
A really nice piece can fetch about $55, mine is probably worth about $10-$15, maybe a little more with it's provenance.Jerry B. wrote:What a great find? Did you look up the value of the dime a 1938 -S (SanFrancisco mint)? Jerry
