Phono Nerds Across America -Ft. Myers Sites & Orlando PHOTOS

Post by Jerry B. »

Stan and I flew from Portland to Ft. Myers today. We arrived in the Ft. Myers area in time to eat at The Edison and we had a wonderful time. I had a chocolate peanut butter Porter that was the best. Stan bought an Edison T-shirt similar to the one our cute server, Mary, was wearing. Tomorrow we go the the Edison / Ford Winter Homes. Can't wait!

The Edison/Ford is a great place. I try to stop in whenever we're visiting my in-laws in nearby Cape Coral.

Have fun, you two!

The Edison home used to have a huge phonograph room but I understand that's no longer the case. Please let us know, with photos if possible.

This isn't the "Edison site" (now the Thomas Edison National Historic Park in West Orange, NJ), but the Edison/Ford Estate (formerly known as the "Winter Home"). There's a fabulous collection of talking machines there, displayed throughout several large rooms/spaces. It's definitely worth a visit.

Happy to see you guys having fun! If I ever manage to get my head out of my rear, I'd act on the plans I drew up a couple years ago (with help from the curator there - Brent Newman) to reproduce the Edison Diamond Disc "Test Phonograph" they have on display there.

Jerry/Stan, If I could be so bold, would you be willing to take a series of good photographs of it for me? I need detail of the base, top and rear especially. The ones I have stored on my PC are okay, but not as detailed as I'd like.

Thanks,
Fran

Looks like you guys are having a fun trip. Wish I could have been with you, but I think you can handle it by yourselves without any problems. Have fun and find some great "stuff" before and during the show.
