I went to the Edison-Ford place in Fort Myers several years ago.A friend that I was visiting in Homosassa took me there.We toured the facility.She commented in regards to phonographs "You know more than the guide!"edisonplayer

Wow, great pictures! I did not realize that there was a gold plated conversion kit to amberolize a Class M. Not the reproducer itself though...

Can any one inform me on the phonograph in the 4th photograph the reproducer seems very high relative to the record among other things? I do not know what the machine is.
The gold M looks like an experimental model in that I would think the base plate etc is shiny brass or gold plate. I thought the originals were iron?

I think you mean the 4th photograph in the second group. If so, that's an Edison Kinetophone. It was designed to provide synchronized sound for motion pictures in 1913. The cylinder is blue celluloid, but the diameter is approximately 5 inches.

It's not experimental. The machine has an engraved plate with Edison's signature which is found on factory machines with special finishes (nickel, gold). As the sign says, it dates from around 1903.

Another great day in Florida. We visited the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Augustine and it was beyond wonderful. We opened the museum at 10am and were there until about 3pm. I think the AAA book recommended at least a one hour visit but it was much better than that. The show is tomorrow and we traveled to Orlando. For dinner we stumbled on Sjharon's Diner. It was one of those little places that the locals eat and it was amazing. Pictured with Stat was our server, TJ. TJ was an excellent server and also made the out of this world peanut butter chocolate pie.. It was a great day but we can't wait for the show to begin tomorrow. 7am sharp!
