Thanks you all! The door exterior is painted the same deep green as the exterior, with the oval painted cream white. Before we did this, the door looked like a barrier. Now it is much more inviting, although in warm weather we leave the door open. I am searching for a proper 96" door with a large rectangular window to replace the existing modern door.
Re: white Victorian houses . . . the Victorians almost NEVER painted a house white . . . that is purely a 20th Century convention. Barns are traditionally red, however, because back in the days of itinerant paint makers, paint was too expensive to waste on a barn, so animal blood was mixed with lime whitewash for the barn.
