Governor problems? with 4-spring credenza motor

Post by johnwilla »

I recently removed and re-greased the springs on my 4-spring credenza motor. I assembled it again, and it seems to run and no irregular thumping, but there is a new problem--the motor slows down when I try to play a record, even when fully wound. I think this might be a governor problem--the springs seem strong and fine. I greased the speed indicator pad, the governor itself seems to turn fine without wobbling or stopping...
Any of you helpful folks have suggestions?
Thanks in advance--

Back all the machine screws that mount the motor frame to the motor board about a half-turn in case you've pulled the frame into a bind by uneven tightening.

Is the ball bearing at the base of the spindle still there? I had a machine or two which exhibited this same problem - I loosened up the screws which held the govenor bushings and moved it back and forth (VERY GENTLY) while the machine was running. Dosen't take much movement. This is not recommended for the faint of heart .

Has anyone solved this problem? I'm in the same boat with my Credenza.
