Gold plated needle cups are not too common and usually command higher prices than the nickle plated ones.
In this case, looking at the bid history, there were 2 guys determined to win it.

I am mamazed at how much of a price something like this commands, but I think it is probably a case of bidding madness that got out of hand (think a number of us have been there!). Um, think I have a spare one of those somewhere, but whats the betting if I listed it on ebay it would only go for 99c!
