Thanks Scott.

At this point, I've learned that the speed numbers on the bedplate were begun somewhere between No.38758 and No.40051. The speed number information for any of those 1293 machines in that range would definitely be helpful. :)

Best to all,

George,
Should the same number be on the motor that is on the tag or would they (motor) be a couple of months later?

The motor numbers never matched the machine's serial number. :)

Howdy-
My Triumph is # 39502, & there are no stenciled numbers on the bedplate.

Now this is getting interesting. Any bets on how close George can get?

Thanks Stephen. I'm getting excited again... :)

But I must ask you the same question I posed to Pete. Under strong light, are there any ghost numbers on the bedplate in front of the speed control knob? If not, is the rest of the gilt decoration on the bedplate strong? (A photo would be great!)

The the answers are "no" and "yes" respectively, the gap will have been narrowed to 549 possible machines, and I'll be pretty happy about that. :)

Best to all,

George P.

So, does that mean adding that decal on mine (#31900) is incorrect?

That's what it means. Triumph No.31900 is too early to have the speed markings.

Hiya George!

I'm curious: did Stephen ever answer your query?

Best,
Fran

I guess not, as I don't have any information entered for his serial number.

No matter, the gap between "no speed markings" and "speed markings" has been narrowed to about a 350 unit gap.
